Understanding and Updating Your Property Characteristics

Characteristics are a key part of your property because they help guests see what makes your place unique and ensure you appear in the right searches.

What are Characteristics?

Characteristics are features or details that describe your property or its units, for example, whether there’s air conditioning, braai facilities, or free Wi-Fi. These details provide guests with a clear understanding of what to expect before they book, enabling them to make informed choices and enhance their overall experience.

Why Characteristics Matter

Adding accurate characteristics does more than describe your property; it helps your place stand out and reach the right guests. By keeping this information up to date, you can:

Improve your visibility in search results
Appear in filtered searches for specific needs (like “pet-friendly” or “secure parking”)
Set clear guest expectations and reduce confusion
Highlight your property’s best features
Increase your chances of confirmed bookings

🚀New Feature: Filter by Room Amenities🚀

Guests can now use the ‘Filter by Room Amenities' option when browsing properties. This makes it easier for them to find properties that match their exact needs, whether they’re looking for a unit with a braai, TV, fridge, or washing machine.

To make sure your property appears in these filtered results, ensure all relevant amenities are selected under 'Characteristics' at the room or unit level. Keeping this information complete and accurate helps attract the right guests and increases your chances of being booked.

If your property is missing key details, it may not appear in relevant search results, leading to fewer views and bookings.

How to Add or Update Property Characteristics

To add or update your property’s characteristics:

Step 1: Log in to your Host Profile.
Step 2: Click on 'Edit Content'.
Step 3: Select the 'Characteristics' tab.
Step 4: Tick the boxes for all the characteristics that apply to your property.
Step 5: Review your selection regularly to ensure it remains accurate.
Step 6: Click 'Save' at the bottom of the page.

Please note: Be as accurate as possible to ensure guests get the correct information when browsing your property.

How to Add Room/Unit Characteristics

If your property has multiple rooms or units, you can add unique characteristics for each one.

Step 1: Log in to your Host Profile.
Step 2: Click on 'Edit Content'.
Step 3: Select the 'Rooms/Units' tab.
Step 4: Scroll down and select the relevant characteristics for each specific room or unit.
Step 5: Click 'Save' when done.

This ensures guests can see exactly what each space offers — especially helpful if amenities differ between rooms or units.
